Routine Daily Car Checks

At UK Prestige Car Hire, the safety of our customers is in the top draw. We will do anything it takes to make sure our customers are safe on the road, wherever they are. We take these safety precautions to minimize any risk of injury that can be caused to our customers.

Checking the car tyre pressures. Car tyres can withstand a lot of punishment, but that's not a reason for complacency. Tyres are less likely to burst or puncture if they are run at the correct pressure. Apart from which, it is illegal to have incorrectly inflated tyres, this is why we at UK Prestige will always check the tyre pressure before each booking. This is then logged on a Car Log Sheet.

While checking the pressure we take a look at the tread - and bits of glass, nails, stones etc. stuck in there. We are always careful when running the hands around the tyres; UK Prestige Car Hire staff always wear gloves before they do check the tyres.

Checking the oil, this is done before the engine is started. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean with a rag and then put it in again. We then pull it out and check the level - it should be about half way between 'min' and 'max'. If it is below 'min', we fill it immediately.

Modern Car hire companies will have oil level warning lights or gauges fitted in their Cars - these are separate from oil pressure gauges – We always look at the Car handbook and make sure that the chauffeur checks the oil!

Water: Most Cars now have sealed or semi sealed 'coolant' systems. There is a level indicator on the plastic tank somewhere under the bonnet - this tank doesn't need to be full - simply our staff will fill it up to the mark.

Screen wash: this is checked before each car is taken out on a booking - screen-wash is very important in the winter on a slushy motorway. The driver (or chauffeur) know how important this check is, for visual and safety reasons. We also check that the car wiper blades are OK, this only takes a minute.

Lights: We will always make sure that all the car lights and indicators work. This will stop you getting a fixed penalty ticket. There will also be one less reason for a stranger to stop you with a view to helping...

Safety Tip: Even though we go through this routine twice to make sure everything is in good order, you, the customer, should always go through the routine checks yourself to be on the safe side. After all, it is for your own safety and it doesn’t take long….
